A Tale of The Unsung Women Heroes of India

The glorious Indian history, on one hand, honours women in many societal dimensions but on the other hand, it echoes added challenges faced by women in education, business and politics compared to their male equal.
With changing scenarios, the contribution of women in progress and other economic activities is on the rise. Let us take a look at a few of the Unsung Women Heroes of India.
Anandi Gopal Joshi was the first Indian woman to graduate with an MD in western medicine in 1886. She inspired many young Indian women to pursue medicine when she was 19. When she graduated, Queen Victoria sent her a congratulatory message on becoming the First Female Indian Doctor.
Saalumarada Thimmakka is an Indian environmentalist from Karnataka who is famous for planting and caring for a whopping 385 massive banyan trees along a four-kilometre stretch on the highway.
Aruna Roy is best known for her efforts to fight corruption and promote government transparency. She is a prominent member of many democratic struggles and campaigns, and currently is the President of the National Federation of Indian Women (NFIW).
In a country where child marriages and child labour is a punishable crime, the documentary - ‘Driving with Selvi’ by Elisa Paloschi brings up the bitter truth about the lives of women in the rural India. Selvi is India’s first woman cab driver who shows us how women empowerment should be done with an inspiring story.

Flight Lieutenant Bhawana Kant is one of the first female fighter pilots of the Indian Air Force to fly during the Republic Day Parade and is also the first Indian woman to qualify as a MiG-21 Bison pilot for combat missions.
The journey of growth for the women of India has truly been a challenging one, but yet many have succeeded in their endeavour. Much like many who struggle to get an opportunity to pursue their interests and passions, there are thousands of villages across India, whose primary income relied on handloom and textiles. In order to sustain their livelihood, we chose to empower the women of these villages to continue to uphold their legacy by weaving.
We, at Kuberan Silks, continue to bridge the gap for women with 9 yards of Silk!
